dealing with a cold
Jan 13th, 2009, 9:18am

My son seems to pick up a cold bug quite frequently, and  I've just heard that they're not recommending kids under 6 take cold medication.

I'm wondering if anyone has any "grandmothers recipes" that might do the trick to help?
The one I tried when I was pregnant was the hot lemon/honey tea and it seemed to work.

My daughter was getting colds accompanied with asthma attacks every 2-3 weeks from 8 months - 18 months. As soon as I put her on a multi-vitamin it cleared up. A year later, she's had maybe 2 colds.

DEALING WITH A COLD

After being around several sick family members over Christmas and then several sick passengers on my flight home, I was completely unsurprised to wake up a few days ago with an elephant sitting on my chest - otherwise known as a chest cold. It's tough dealing with a cold this time of year - the holidays are over, which makes some of us crabby and depressed, and the cold air only makes you feel worse. Then there's my husband who refuses to wait on me hand and foot...what's up with that?

When I catch cold I use some general medicines to imrove my condition. Maybe you'd better try them too. But before using them you should consult with a doctor.

Best Home Remedies to get Cure From The Cold I'm Discussing Here some of them Hope It'll definately Help You:
1)Garlic contains antiseptic properties. Garlic soup or supplement is the best natural remedy for common cold.
2)Common cold cure - Garlic oil combined with onion juice, diluted with water should be drunk several times a day.
3)Cut ginger into small pieces and boil it in a cup of water. Strain the mixture and add half teaspoon of sugar and drink it hot. Ginger tea is also beneficial in treating cold.
4)Diet for common cold - Take some tulsi seeds and some amount of ginger in identical amounts. Mix both of them thoroughly and make a fine powdery mixture. Consume five grams of this mixture two times in a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. This will definitely help in treating severe common colds and is good natural remedy for common cold.

5)Hot packs (fomentations) are excellent for chest and head colds.

6)A hot water bath is recommended as it relieves the patient from chest and nasal congestion. Good Home Remedy for cold.

7)Inhaling steam will also provide relief from congested nasal tissues. Another Good Home Remedy for common cold.

I also use Paracetamol, but had bad side effects after it. Now I use only natural treatment like hot tea with jam and limon. Also I always drink warm water during the cold.

I always find that getting plenty of vitamin c helps fight off colds. This can be administered by giving them orange juice or giving them a vitamin that contains vitamin c. Also if they start to get a scratchy throat or other signs of a cold, I'll give them more orange juice to drink.
